Day 13. Kendal. Wednesday 7 May 2003. Town and Around

We all went up town this morning. I slipped away to look for a better map of the local area and found a better one than we had. Today was reasonably warm and we had lunch in a small cafe in Fingle Street. The day was pleasant so we volenteered to sit outside. Soup was on the menu for me.

This afternoon we went up to Underbarrow to visit the grave of Jim Gibson and see the new headstone put up since our last visit. Gillian and Anthony managed to find a few wild bluebells and placed them quietly on Jim Gibson's grave and spent some time with Jim. Anthony had never met Jim, Gillian had but was probably too young to remember at 4 years old, a long time ago. In the meantime Pat had slipped into the old Church to spend some quiet time.

As I mentioned previously we thought we had a slow puncture in one of the car's tires so on our way back we left the car and had the tires checked at a tire shop at the bottom of Lowther St. On our return we learnt that the tires were OK. The shop owner, Peter would not take any payment for the check out. On the way out I noticed that the shop specalised in racing motor bikes and I went back and asked Peter if by chance he knew Jeff Irving, he did and was most suprised to hear of him, so I filled him in over the past 10 years of Jeff's exploits.

We returned to Cragg Farm. Cragg Farm was built in 1661. Underbarrow Church had been there since 1220. The mind boggles at the though of what has passed over those hundreds of years.

Cold but dry today with sun and cloud. Up high and open at Cragg Farm it was even colder.
